As much as I love school holidays for their change of pace, freedom from routine and increased spontaneity, I usually end up feeling pretty stressed after taking a few weeks break from ‘normal’. This is because, whether we are travelling or holidaying at home (read ‘catching up on jobs around the house’!), I still have to keep up with ‘everyday’ jobs like cooking, cleaning and laundry, volunteer projects, grocery shopping, etc, etc!
I love the fun times we have as a family, but I then easily find myself getting stressed out because I’ve let other things slide. In fact, during these past two weeks of school holidays, there’s been more than handful of times that I’ve had to take some deep breaths because of the feeling of overwhelm that was starting to creep up on me.
That’s why I created the tool ‘Move from Overwhelm to Order’, available as a download when you sign up to my newsletter. Sometimes just sitting down to make the list helps my snowed under brain to cope – I can see it, I can figure out a plan to make it happen, and it’s often not as ‘big’ as it seems in my mind.
The other day when I was feeling particularly anxious, I sat down with these worksheets and practised getting everything out of my head and onto paper. It turns out that the list was only half as long as I thought it was, and I could easily allocate the time to get some of the smaller tasks done. It also gave me an opportunity to communicate to my husband that I needed some time to work on specific projects, and I was able to prioritise the five things I absolutely needed to get done this week.
If you’d like to receive the download ‘Move from Overwhelm to Order’, you can get it for free when you sign up to my weekly newsletter (over there on the side-bar). I’d love to keep you updated with tips, tricks and tools that will help you to feel calm, capable and fulfilled as a mum.
Let me know how it helps you!
Wishing you peace x
